Minerals & Hair Disasters

When it comes to Realestate it’s all about location, location, location.

When it comes to having good hair it is also about location, location, location.

Where you live will effect how your hair is. Water is the most critical factor in having poor hair. Hard water is a major issue for many people. Minerals in the water bind to hair resulting in: color fadage, hair breakage, dry hair, itchy flakey scalp, dry skin, chemical reactions. Even the cleanest water will still have some minerals in them. This is why when hair has lightener on it it will accelerate when it gets wet or damp. Removing the mineral from the hair must be done in order to have beautiful blondes, amazing reds, and having strong hair. Minerals can be removed through the use of special shampoos chelating shampoos, or treatments such as Malibu C.

When I went to the ABCH energizing summit I learned a lot about Malibu C. This product uses a special patented technology to remove mineral build up from hair. I love the Crystal gel but there are many other treatments. Their catchphrase is “What’s Hiding in Your Hair?”. You can see the gel turn a blue or green depending on what minerals are present and how much are there. You need to use a heated dryer in order to activate the treatment and pull out the minerals.

If you are a stylist please start reading the color manuals, they can protect you from potentially having a lawsuit for frying off a persons hair. Most color books say to apply on clean dry hair. This is a vague term and the current cosmetology education does not tell you to do a removing treatment. I had an amazing educator who told my group that we don’t mix hair color in a metal bowl because that can cause a reaction, so why would you put color on hair that is loaded with metal.
